How to fill out a friendly statement report

What is a friendly accident report in Spain?

A friendly accident report, also known as amicable accident statement, is an official document that both drivers involved in a road accident fill out and sign together. It records the circumstances of the accident by mutual agreement and is used by insurance companies to determine which party is liable and which insurer must cover the damages.

How do I fill out a friendly accident report step-by-step?

In order to complete the statement correctly you must:

•    Location, date and time: Record the exact location of the accident, including the kilometre point if it occurred on a road outside a city. Be as precise as possible.
•    Injuries: Indicate whether there are any injured parties, even if the injuries seem minor. Describe any symptoms visible immediately after the impact.
•    Vehicle and driver details: Each vehicle is assigned a column (A or B). Fill in all requested information: licence plate, make, model, insurance policy details, a summary of what happened, and a description of the damage.
•    Diagram (sketch): Draw a clear schematic showing how the accident happened. Include the direction each vehicle was travelling (use arrows), the point of impact, road markings, and any relevant road features.
•    Signatures: Both parties must sign the form. You may sign indicating agreement or disagreement with the account given. Once signed, no new information can be added to the front of the form.
•    Police/authority involvement: Note whether the police or any other authority attended the scene.

What happens after I sign the friendly accident report?

Once both parties have signed the form, it becomes a binding document. No changes can be made to the information on the front page. Each driver keeps one copy and submits it to their own insurance company. The insurers then communicate with each other to determine liability based on traffic regulations and the information provided in the report.

Who pays for the damage caused after a car accident?

Traffic regulations determine which driver caused the accident. Once fault is established, the at-fault driver's insurance company is responsible for covering the damage. How much is covered depends on the type of policy the at-fault driver holds and whether the damages are material (vehicle damage) or personal (physical injuries).

Can I fill a friendly accident report online or from my phone?

Yes. The report can be completed online using the iDEA App, which automatically sends the accident details to both parties' insurance companies. However, this requires a mobile data connection, which may not always be available at the scene of an accident.

For this reason, it is strongly recommended to always keep a printed blank copy of the form in your glove compartment, along with at least two pens.

You can also use your insurer’s official App through their "Report a Claim" section. Since they already have your policy info, it only takes a few taps.

Where can I download a blank friendly accident report form?

You can download a fillable amicable accident report form in PDF format here.

You simply need to print it out, or make several copies, and you will always have the reassurance that, whatever happens, you will be fully prepared.

Remember, it is very important to know how to complete an amicable accident report form correctly, as the way it is filled in may determine how liability for the accident is assigned from the insurer’s point of view.
